School Administrator, October 2022

S. Annalee Bennin

Annalee Bennin has assumed the district administrator post in Franklin, Wis., after two years in the same role in Sheboygan Falls, Wis. She previously held several positions over 10 years in the Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District in Oak Creek, Wis., including assistant superintendent for teaching and learning, director of curriculum and instruction and principal. Bennin’s career began as a summer school educator for the Elkhart-Lake Glenbeulah School District in Elkhart Lake, Wis. She has been an AASA member since 2020.

Paul Imhoff

AASA’s immediate past president, Paul Imhoff, has been named director of governmental relations for the Buckeye Association of School Administrators in Columbus, Ohio, beginning in January. He spent nine years as superintendent in Upper Arlington, Ohio, and earlier was superintendent of Mariemont City Schools in Cincinnati, Ohio, and assistant superintendent of Madeira City Schools in Cincinnati. Imhoff received his Ed.D. from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and is a 15-year AASA member.

Patrick K. Murphy

After stints as superintendent in Berkeley County, W.Va., for three years and Arlington, Va., for 10 years, Patrick Murphy has moved into the deputy superintendency of the Montgomery County Public Schools in Rockville, Md. Murphy previously worked for the Fairfax County, Va., schools as assistant superintendent for accountability. Earlier, he worked as director of instruction in Winchester, Va., and middle school principal in Springfield, Va. An AASA member for 23 years, Murphy holds an Ed.D. in educational administration from Virginia Tech.

James J. Sullivan

Following two years as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction with the Rutherford County Schools in Murfreesboro, Tenn., James Sullivan is moving to the top berth in the district. Sullivan previously worked as a principal in the district and in Bedford County Schools in Shelbyville, Tenn. He serves as an adjunct professor at Lipscomb University’s College of Education in Nashville, Tenn., where he received his Ed.D. Sullivan has been an AASA member since 2021.

When Cory Dziowgo was 15, he took his first long road trip to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota with his family. That meant a five-hour ride aboard his Honda 400 from north-central Nebraska. Now, the third-year superintendent of Platte County School District 1 in Wheatland, Wyo. (and AASA member since 2020), keeps up his passion by riding to school board meetings on his Yamaha Stratoliner. Dziowgo, 44, also rides in the district’s homecoming parade, enabling students to see him in action. “It kind of humanizes the role,” he says. “It shows that it’s not all stuffy. You can have your own personality.” His own young kids, in 1st, 2nd and 4th grades, are eager to get their turn, having watched countless family members (including Dziowgo’s father, a motorcyclist at 74). Though still early for the youngsters to ride to Sturgis, Dziowgo says he plans to eventually renew the family cycling tradition.
