State of the Superintendency
Years in the Role
School Administrator, August 2022
About 46 percent of all superintendents nationwide have spent fewer than five years in the role, according to a 2022 AASA survey.
A breakdown of the data on experience by gender showed a marked difference. Nearly 59 percent of female superintendents reported they had spent fewer than five years in their present role compared to 42 percent of male superintendents.
