State of the Superintendency
Post-Retirement Plans
School Administrator, April 2022

Superintendents tend to have many opportunities to work in post-retirement. For the most part, retiring superintendents say they do not plan to sit idle.

According to a study among New York state superintendents published in 2020, only 6 percent indicated they had no intentions of pursuing any paid work. A solid 38 percent of the survey respondents were undecided about their plans.
