State of the Superintendency
Prompts for Applying for the Job
School Administrator, January 2020
Advertisements for position openings in the superintendency serve, by a significant margin, as the No. 1 factor when a candidate applies for a new post, according to a survey of 471 superintendents by the New York State Council of School Superintendents in 2018.
That has been the leading contributing factor in each of the association’s superintendent surveys dating back to 2003.
The second most common factor in prompting a job application is a personal invitation by a member of the board of education.
