State of the Superintendency
Use of Legal Counsel
School Administrator, October 2019
Nearly 60 percent of local school boards use legal counsel to negotiate their contract with the superintendent, but only 30 percent of superintendents retain legal help when addressing their employment agreement, according to an AASA survey of superintendents released earlier this year.
An AASA survey five years earlier showed 49 percent of boards and 21 percent of superintendents used legal assistance in contract development.
