AASA's Safety Toolkit and Hotline

AASA has produced a School Safety and Crisis Planning toolkit comprised of online resources to assist school districts before, during and after a crisis.

The toolkit includes links to a select group of safety leaders throughout the U.S. who are ready to provide peer-to-peer guidance about dealing with school-based shootings, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, fires, suicides and other major disruptions that come without notice.

Contributing to AASA’s project were the American School Counselor Association, the National Association of School Psychologists, the National School Boards Association, the National School Public Relations Association, CrisisGo and CitizenAID. The latter two are AASA School Solutions partners.

In addition, AASA has created a safety hotline — 571-480-0313. This phone number connects AASA members with Joseph Erardi Jr., former superintendent in Newtown, Conn., in the aftermath of the 2012 mass shooting tragedy. Erardi will connect callers with the most appropriate school system resource depending on the type of crisis.

A former AASA Executive Committee member, Erardi played a central role in creating the AASA School Safety toolkit.
