Kara Coglianese
Crete-Monee School District 201-U officially welcomes Kara Coglianese as she becomes superintendent of the suburban Chicago district. Coglianese formerly worked over a seven-year period as superintendent of the districts based in Homer Glen, Ill., and Bourbonnais, Ill., after serving as assistant superintendent in Fremont School District 79 in Mundelein, Ill. Coglianese also was director of learning, and instructional specialist and trainer in other Illinois districts. She earned her Ed.D. from Roosevelt University. Coglianese has been a member of AASA since 2014.




Anna Cutaia
Anna Cutaia has moved into the superintendency in Milford, Conn., after serving for four years as superintendent in Regional District 14 in Woodbury, Conn. She started her career in Myrtle Beach, S.C., where she worked as a teacher, assistant principal and principal and later was an education consultant to the Connecticut Department of Education and director of elementary education in Fairfield, Conn. Cutaia, an AASA member since 2015, earned her Ed.D. from the University of Connecticut.




Lewis D. Ferebee
After five years as head of Indianapolis Public Schools, Lewis Ferebee is the new chancellor of the 49,056-student District of Columbia Public Schools. Ferebee previously served as chief of staff in Durham, N.C., and as an area and regional superintendent in Greensboro, N.C., after serving as principal and assistant principal at various schools throughout North Carolina. He began his career as an elementary school teacher in Newport News, Va. An AASA member since 2017, Ferebee earned his Ed.D. in educational leadership from East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C.

 


James S. Flynn III
Jim Flynn will become executive director of the Kentucky Association of School Superintendents on July 1. He is in his 16th year as superintendent of Simpson County Schools in Franklin, Ky. Previously, Flynn spent five years as principal of Shelby County High School in Shelbyville, Ky. He also worked as a vice principal, science teacher and basketball coach in Bowling Green, Ky. A member of AASA since 2003, Flynn was the 2015 Kentucky Superintendent of the Year. He earned his Ed.D. in educational leadership from Northern Kentucky University.

 


Mary M. Kreger
The interim tag has been removed from Mary Kreger’s title of superintendent of Independent School District 196 in Rosemount, Minn. Kreger started working for District 196 in 2005 as director of special education and as a member of the superintendent’s cabinet. Previously, she worked in Cottage Grove, Minn., for 13 years as a special education teacher, coordinator and supervisor. She began her career as a substitute teacher, handling assignments in Minneapolis, Lakeville and Rosemount. Kreger joined AASA in 2005.




Kenneth Spells
The South Bend, Ind., Community School Corporation will say goodbye to its superintendent of three years as Kenneth Spells assumes the superintendency at Hazel Crest, Ill., School District. Spells came to South Bend from Alton, Ill., Community Unit School District 11, where he served over a nine-year period as superintendent and assistant superintendent. Earlier, he was an elementary school principal in Jacksonville, Ill., and a teacher and basketball coach in North Carolina after serving in the U.S. Navy. A 10-year member of AASA, Spells earned his Ed.D. in educational leadership from Maryville University in St. Louis, Mo.
