Danna Diaz
The former superintendent of the 800-student San Juan Island, Wash., School District is the new superintendent of Reynolds School District in Fairview, Ore. Danna Diaz came to the Pacific Northwest from Texas, where she was assistant superintendent in El Paso and director of student engagement in Fort Worth. She also was a regional superintendent in Philadelphia and an elementary principal in several schools in Texas and Florida after starting as a bilingual teacher. Diaz, who earned a Ph.D. from University of Texas at Austin, has been a member of AASA since 2012.


 

Charles E. Foust
The new superintendent in Kansas City, Kan., is Charles Foust, previously the chief school performance officer in Monroe, N.C. Foust also worked as an assistant superintendent, school support officer and principal in the Houston, Texas, Independent School District and as a principal and assistant principal in Guilford County, N.C. He began his career teaching at-risk students in Danville, Va. Foust earned his doctorate in professional leadership from the University of Houston. He joined AASA in 2017.





Stephen H. Guthrie
After more than 35 years in the Carroll County Public Schools in Westminster, Md., Stephen Guthrie has taken the top spot in the Sussex Technical School District in Georgetown, Del. Guthrie most recently spent eight years in the superintendency in Carroll County, where he also worked as assistant superintendent and director of human resources and started as a social studies teacher. He also taught in Pennsylvania and California. Guthrie, recognized in 2015 as Maryland state superintendent of the year, joined AASA in 2010.

 


Donna Hargens
Donna Hargens is the new superintendent of the 17,000-student Catholic schools for the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Md. Hargens moved to Baltimore from Louisville, Ky., where she was superintendent of Jefferson County Public Schools, the nation’s 25th largest district. She previously served as chief academic officer, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction and interim superintendent in Wake County, N.C. Hargens also was a principal and Spanish teacher. An AASA member since 2010, she earned her doctorate in educational leadership from Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J.

 


Ryan Hollingsworth
After a career as an educator in Marion County Public Schools in Hamilton, Ala., Ryan Hollingsworth is now executive director of the School Superintendents of Alabama in Montgomery, Ala. Hollingsworth was superintendent in Marion County for the past 10 years and previously was assistant superintendent. He worked as assistant principal at Hamilton Middle School after starting as a science teacher and coach at Hamilton High School. Hollingsworth has been a member of AASA since 2008.



 

Julie A. Vitale
The Romoland School District in Homeland, Calif., has bid farewell to its superintendent of five years as Julie Vitale takes the reins of Oceanside, Calif., Unified School District. Vitale began her career as a language arts teacher in the Corona-Norco Unified School District in Norco, Calif., where she later served as the inaugural principal of Eleanor Roosevelt High School and director of student services. She earned a Ph.D. in urban educational administration from Claremont Graduate University in Los Angeles. Vitale joined AASA in 2012.
