Keeping Score in Vancouver’s Schools

By Steve Webb/School Administrator, January 2017

The Vancouver Public Schools’ performance scorecard was developed in response to the implementation of Common Core State Standards, expansion of college-readiness programs and opportunities, increased awareness of the impact of climate and culture on student success and a systemic focus on closing and eliminating opportunity and achievement gaps.

The scorecard, which we put into public use in the 2015-16 school year, contains 28 evidence-based key performance indicators that serve as both leading and lagging measures of success. The title reflects the concluding year of the current strategic plan iteration to which the scorecard is aligned. It also suggests clarity of vision — our stakeholders’ vision for their schools.
