Starting Point
Raising Tech Ramifications

School Administrator, December 2017

As uses of personal technology creep into every corner of K-12 education, the number of complications for school leaders escalates at an even faster clip.

Consider the unanticipated ramifications raised in a couple of columns in our Frontline section this month that readers may wish to consider.

In Legal Brief, Erin Gilsbach, an attorney in Bethlehem, Pa., writes about the liability involved when a school employee seeks crowdfunding for what on its face may target a perfectly reasonable classroom need. In the Social Media column, Nicole Kirby, director of communications for schools in Park Hill, Mo., addresses the not-always-obvious downside of using Facebook to channel feedback from the district to individuals who pose questions.

These columns, like others carried monthly in School Administrator, deliver the practical goods we believe our readers expect to find each month. Please let us know what you think and how we might extend their usefulness.
