Evergreen Clauses
School Administrator, August 2017

Evergreen Clause in Contract:
2016-17
Women
Approximately one-third of superintendents report having an evergreen clause in their employment contract.
An evergreen provision is commonly referred to as a “rollover provision” in which the term of the agreement (often dictated by state law) is specified and a date is specified prior to the end of that term when either party must alert the other party of intent not to renew the agreement. If notice is not provided in accordance with the written guidelines, the contract is automatically renewed for a specified period of time.
