It's incredibly important to be part of organizations that have a similar mission and that uplift the profession as AASA does. The large membership base gives a great network of other professionals to learn from and the staff development and resources for administrators is excellent.  I am a member because it is one of the best associations available to administrators who believe in continuous improvement  for themselves and for their school systems.

Network with other school leaders

  • The AASA Collaborative is a national network established to give voice to educational leaders on challenging issues of school improvement and accountability by the lead professional superintendents' organization in the United States
  • Leadership Networks, a part of the AASA Leadership Development department, connects networks of organizations and individuals that share common goals and core beliefs. These networks link with each other and with the work of the department so that they find the mutual support needed in order to maintain and promote shared values and beliefs.
  •  AASA National Superintendent Certification Program. We have planned a robust experience that focuses on sharpening the skills that successful superintendents acknowledge are needed to thrive on the job, and provide a relevant experience for our members. It is clear that political and economic pressures of the job are exacerbated by growing intrusion into local control and a prevailing attitude that educators do not have the solutions and indeed are part of the problem. Our certificate will help our members strive in these difficult conditions.

Leadership Networks
AASA develops leadership networks that allow like-minded leaders to connect, focus on key issues and learn from each other, with the goal of improving education for all children.

The Urban Superintendents Academy
The Urban Superintendents Academy is a new cross-institutional partnership that offers a dynamic approach to urban superintendent preparation and certification. AASA, The School Superintendents Association, has launched distinct partnerships with Howard University and the University of Southern California to bolster the effectiveness of school district leadership in our nation's urban areas.

The Aspiring Superintendents' Academy
The Aspiring Superintendents' Academy provides a rich, collegial cohort opportunity for school leaders who wish to become Minnesota School Superintendents.  The Academy focuses on developing a professional practice in the superintendency that is grounded on evidence-based knowledge, skills, and dispositions that contribute to successful capstone leadership.  Sessions are taught by experienced, effective school leaders and each participant will be paired with a mentor for guidance during the cohort and beyond.
